            2009 Scholarship Recipient

Alexis T. Claassen

Alexis T. Claassen, daughter of David and Kimberly Claassen received an academic scholarship from the New Kensington Chamber of Commerce. A 2009 graduate of Valley High School. She will be attending West Virginia University where she plans to major in Pre-Biology.

An honor student at Valley, Gifted Program 10 years, she was a member of the Student Council, International Club, Prom Club, Interact Club, Spirit Club, Art Club and National Honor Society, Chinese Delegation, Visiting Beijing, China on December 5th-14th, 2008.

Previous honors and awards were the Lion's Club Student of the month, Lion's Club Honorary Speaker at the 2009 Youth Seminar, and Mayor's Award for the City of Arnold's Chamber of Commerce, YMCA Teen Athlete of 2009.

Community activities include Weed and Seed representative for 4 years, Leadership Class, Medical Explorers, University of Pittsburgh, Mock Trail, role in a mock court case.

She was the 1st female football player in the history of the school. She was a Tennis starting varsity doubles team, Soccer, Track and Field, she was a discus thrower.

Her special hobbies are reading, art lessons, running and hanging out with her little brother.

           2007 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

     Kristen A. Ravotti

Daughter of Timothy and Janice ( Ray ) Ravotti, received an academic scholarship from the New Kensington/Northern Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce. A 2007 graduate of Valley High School, she has been accepted to Penn State University Park, where she plans to major in business/accounting. An honor student at Valley she was a member of the student council, Interact Club, Prom Club, International Club and National Honor Society. Previous honors and awards received were Lions Club Student of the Month, Who's Who Amoung American High School Scholars, and American Legion Award winner. Community and church activities include tutoring first graders at Martin Elementary, Breakfast with Santa in New Kensington, turkey dinners at St, Joseph Parish and planting flowers along New Kensington roads. She was captain of the tennis team and her hobbies include art, reading and physical activities.
